Richard L. Schenberger, ARA
Retired
Richard "Dick" Schenberger is the founding partner of Schenberger, Taylor, McCormick & Jecker, Inc. (STM&J).
He has been appraising since 1961, first with the Lassen County (California) Assessor’s Office and then with Bank of America, prior to founding STM&J. While Dick appraised a wide variety of property types, his real specialty was agricultural and rural properties and has a long history of appraising these property types along California’s Central Coast.
He was a long-time instructor of real estate appraisal classes at both Cuesta Community College and Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo. He is a frequent expert witness in real estate valuation matters in various state and federal courts.
Dick holds the Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation offered by the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. He is also a licensed real estate broker and holds a lifetime teaching credential.
His hobbies include trap and skeet shooting, gold prospecting, fishing, investigating local and regional history, and traveling.

Jerry Taylor joined Dick Schenberger in 1974 after beginning his appraisal career with the Santa Barbara County Assessor’s Office and serving as the chief appraiser for San Luis Obispo Savings & Loan, as well as a staff appraiser for the Solot Company in Tucson, Arizona.
Jerry has appraised an extensive variety of complicated properties, with particular emphasis in mobilehome parks, RV parks, commercial/industrial subdivisions, hotels, golf courses, and eminent domain projects.
For over 20 years, his main specialization has been mobilehome park valuation throughout the United States, with particular emphasis in mobilehome park litigation, rent control arbitration, and portfolios.
Jerry has taught appraisal and specialized topics for Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, Allan Hancock College, and professional organizations.
He holds the MAI and SREA credentials offered by the Appraisal Institute.
Jerry was a commercial-rated pilot and has flown for professional, humanitarian, and hobby purposes. He and his wife, Grace, live in Atascadero and frequently travel to their second home in San Felipe, Mexico.

Rollie A. McCormick, MAI

Rollie McCormick came to work with the firm of STM&J in 1979 after working 6 years as an appraiser with the San Luis Obispo County Assessor's office.
Rollie has extensive experience valuing commercial, office, industrial, land, and development properties, as well as large apartment complexes.
He tends to concentrate on San Luis Obispo commercial/industrial/office properties and in-fill development parcels in several Central Coast communities.
Common requests are appraisals for financing, litigation, and estate purposes. Rollie has served as an expert witness and litigation consultant.
Rollie lettered in track at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo and he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He holds the MAI designation conferred by the Appraisal Institute.
Rollie coached youth baseball for many years. He and his wife, Lori, live in San Luis Obispo. He serves on the Mustang Athletic Fund board that raises funds for Cal Poly student athlete scholarship funds. Their sons, Matt and Mitch, attended Cal Poly and Cuesta Community College.

Jerald W. Jecker, SRA

Jerald originally joined STM&J in 1976 after receiving his Masters Degree in Agriculture from Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo.
Jerald offers 30 years of experience to his clients, reflecting an extensive variety of complex assignments, including commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential properties. He specializes in complex, single-family residential rural estate homes, and ranches for financing, legal, and IRS/estate purposes, primarily in San Luis Obispo County.
He holds the Senior Residential Appraiser (SRA) designation awarded by the Appraisal Institute. He is also a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser by the State of California.
Jerald is a qualified expert witness in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court.
When not appraising, Jerald and his wife, Lisby, enjoy off-road travel. In the fall of 2005, Jerald and other San Luis Obispo off–roaders traveled to Louisiana to help with Hurricane Katrina relief.

Todd O. Murphy, MAI, ARA

After beginning his appraisal career with the Santa Barbara County Assessor's office in 1979, Todd Murphy was hired at the firm in 1983. In 1992, he became a principal in the firm.
Todd specializes in complex land valuation assignments, including development and interim-use properties. Todd also appraises farmland and agricultural properties.
He has developed a particular expertise in conservation easement, eminent domain, and title defect valuation. His work extensive assignments involving existing or proposed conservation easements affecting properties from 20 to 80,000± acres in size. Clients include local, state, and federal agencies, as well as private property owners and their advisors.
He earned a BS degree in Agricultural Management/Farm Management from Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo. He holds the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute and the ARA designation from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.
Todd taught appraisal and related courses for 8 years at Cuesta College, and also taught rural property valuation at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo. He has also presented to many groups on the topic of conservation easement valuation.
Todd and his wife, Heather, live in San Luis Obispo with their dog. Todd enjoys playing basketball and fishing.

Max R. Knupper

Max R. Knupper, Certified General Real Estate Appraiser, rejoined
STM&J in March 2010 as a Senior Appraiser. He brings over 35 years of
experience as an appraiser and appraisal reviewer. His expertise includes
extensive work with complex agricultural and vineyard properties, as well
as commercial and industrial assignments.

After graduating with a B.S. degree in City & Regional Planning and a minor in Business Administration from Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, John began his professional career with Tulare County Planning Department as a code enforcement officer and right-of-way agent. In 1998, he joined the Sonoma County Water Agency as a right-of-way agent.
In 2002, while working at the Sonoma County Water Agency, John also began working for Pacific Coast Appraisal Services, where he obtained his trainee's appraisal license and began doing residential appraisals.
In 2005, John returned to the Central Coast performing right-of-way work for the Nacimiento Water Project. In May 2007, he joined the team at STM&J, and has become certified to complete any residential assignment while building experience on residential and commercial projects.
John's currently supporting the partners in preparing appraisals for ranches, conservation easements, right-of-way acquisitions, commercial buildings, and single-family homes.
In 2009/2010, John upgraded his appraisal license to Certified Residential, and currently
handles much of the residential lending work for the firm, as well as supports the partners
in preparing appraisals for ranches, conservation easements, right-of-way acquisitions,
commercial buildings, and single-family homes.
John and his partner, Lisa, live in Grover Beach with their son and two cats. John enjoys playing soccer and softball.

Dixie L. (Taylor) Ridge

Dixie is our master of research and expert on mobilehome parks. She often assists Jerry Taylor with mobilehome park assignments throughout the state.
She was a Journalism major at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo and attended Cuesta Community College enrolled in the Real Estate Certificate Program.
Prior to joining STM&J in 1991, Dixie edited a weekly newsletter and performed computer consulting for the Contra Costa Board of Realtors in Walnut Creek and was a Legal Research Assistant editing legal codes for Guam and editing a monthly newsletter for John A. Bohn, Esq. Earlier she was an investigative reporter and photo journalist for the Concord Transcript in Concord, California
She is an alumni of the California Scholastic Press Association.
Dixie and her husband, Rick, live in Atascadero with their two daughters – Barbara and Katie.

Janis is our lead Word Processor and Document Production Specialist. She coordinates various report and exhibit preparation and research project duties.
She worked many years for Bechtel Power Corporation in her hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She enjoys her Golden Retrievers Charger & Dutchess - and is very involved with the SLO County Golden Retrievers "Goldens in the Park" and Welcome Home Military Heroes. She has been collecting teddy bears since 1993, and boasts a hug of over 600 pieces. Janis and her husband, Dave, travel as often as possible to San Diego for sporting events (Chargers and Padres) and teddy bear shows.

Heather Ellingson recently graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Agricultural Systems Management. She is currently employed as a research analyst and is working toward her general certification. She hopes to concentrate on winery, ranch, and farmland, as well as conservation easements. Heather is also a member of both the ASFMRA and the Appraisal Institute. Heather currently lives in Santa Margarita with her boyfriend and their two puppies.

Kary Griffith joined STM&J in 2012 as a Research Analyst and Appraiser Trainee, shortly before graduating from Cal Poly — San Luis Obispo with a degree in Agricultural Business and a concentration in Finance and Appraisal. Having grown up on a small cattle ranch in Copperopolis, CA, she is especially interested in agricultural properties and is working toward earning her Certified General License.

Marcia is our bookkeeper, who handles payroll, collections, and human resource duties.
Marcia moved here from Orange County in 1970 and has lived here on the Central Coast ever since. She has over 30 years of experience in the field of accounting.
Marcia and her husband, Scott, live in Atascadero. They enjoy traveling, whenever possible, and like spending time at Lake Nacimiento with family.
